Located in Western Racine County in Wisconsin, Explore Waterford is a community-based volunteer organization which is part of the National Main Street Community program authorized by the State of Wisconsin to promote local business in our village and protect the historic nature of our Heritage District.

This site is created and managed by the Design Committee of Explore Waterford (EW). In an effort to promote the village’s past, the Design Committee has created this site in collaboration with its Heritage Sites Walking Tour unveiled in 2018. Our motto: Y0UR HERITAGE…YOUR FUTURE.

Our new location of Explore Waterford is in the Village Hall, 123 N. River St., Waterford, WI 53150.

Visit the featured sites in our Village of Waterford, marked with bronze plaques, and learn more about their past by following the drop-down menu above the banner. Web pages will be updated as buried history surfaces.

TO NAVIGATE OUR WEBSITE:

Click on EARLY HISTORY to view the origins leading up to establishing Waterford as a village in 1842.

Click on COMMERCIAL SITES to view the developing list of heritage business buildings in town – some going back to the 1840s. This list will continue to be developed as we uncover information.

Click on VILLAGE SITES to learn about how these sites played a part in the development of the village. Included are overviews of the East Side, West Side, The 1898 Fire, and the Old Settlers Cemetery.

Click on RESIDENTIAL SITES to view identified homes with unique architecture or ties to the early development of the village. There will be updates as research continues.

Click on THE MILLS OF WATERFORD to learn about the history of the Waterford Dam, the businesses it generated, and the mercantile trade that occupied the Fox River shoreline.
